Green Day to Open Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium

Green Day is bringing Bay Area punk energy to the NFL’s biggest stage, opening Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Feb. 8, 2026. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame trio — Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool — will kick off the league’s 60th championship game with a live pregame ceremony that welcomes generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field in a tribute to six decades of football history. The performance is scheduled to air live at 3 p.m. PT on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo, setting the tone long before the first snap — and long before viewers settle in for the night’s much-anticipated super bowl ads.

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” Armstrong said in a statement. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!” The NFL’s senior director of event and game presentation, Tim Tubito, called the hometown booking “an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” noting that the collaboration with NBC Sports is designed as a “collective celebration” for fans in the stadium and watching around the world. For brands planning their biggest super bowl commercials of the year, that kind of high-energy musical opening helps build an emotional runway into the night’s most expensive ad breaks.

Green Day’s appearance comes before the official pregame entertainment slate, which includes Charlie Puth performing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile delivering “America the Beautiful,” and “Bel-Air” star Coco Jones singing the Black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Puerto Rican megastar Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl halftime show, adding another layer of star power to a broadcast where super bowl advertising routinely commands record-setting rates. For context on how those spots have evolved over time, fans can explore the Super Bowl commercial archive and see how brands used music, celebrities and humor in recent years.

Formed in the East Bay in the late 1980s, Green Day has remained one of Northern California’s most influential musical exports, recently headlining BottleRock Napa Valley and San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival. Their Super Bowl week will be packed: in addition to the opening ceremony, the band is slated to headline the FanDuel Party powered by Spotify at Pier 29 on Feb. 6 alongside fellow Bay Area rockers Counting Crows. With Levi’s Stadium hosting its first Super Bowl since Super Bowl 50 in 2016, the league is clearly leaning into local flavor — the same way major advertisers lean into nostalgia, hometown pride and cultural moments to make their super bowl ads stand out.
