Amazon is making its Super Bowl ad debut with Alec Baldwin, Dan Marino – USA TODAY
Amazon has lined up to make its Super Bowl advertising debut, with its first-ever big game commercial featuring actor Alec Baldwin and football great Dan Marino.
In a teaser for the upcoming commercial, Baldwin gets help planning a Super Bowl fete from Marino and the Amazon Echo, the online retailer’s wireless speaker. Echo’s cloud-based voice service “Alexa” performs tasks ranging from reading an audio book to reporting on the weather.
In the teaser ad, Marino suggest that Baldwin create a “snack stadium.” Alexa defines what a snack stadium is, saying, it is “a stadium built entirely of snacks.”
“Echo has had an amazing reception from customers over the past year,” Neil Lindsay, vice-president of Amazon Devices said in a statement. “We thought the Super Bowl was a great chance to tell even more people about what Echo and Alexa can do, and have some fun while doing it.”
Amazon is one of many companies trying to create pre-game buzz by releasing hints of what they will have on display when the Carolina Panthers meet up with the Denver Broncos at Levi’s Stadium on Feb. 7.
Bud Light, Kia and Skittles have also given glimpses of the star-studded ads they will run during the game.
The retailer also joins several other Super Bowl rookies, including beer brand Shock Top and PERSIL Pro Clean laundry detergent. They will appear on one of the biggest marketing stages in sports.
The game’s viewership typically tops 100 million, and is often the most watched television show of the year.
