Monster.com and NFL to Announce the Next “Director of Fandemonium” Live on Super Bowl XLIV Pregame Show
National contest finalists descend on South Florida to earn “dreamjob”
FLORIDA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–After a season-long search to fill the “dream job” for an NFL fan, Monster.com®, the leading global online career and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), together with the National Football League (NFL) will announce the next “Director of the NFL Department of Fandemonium” live on the CBS Super Bowl XLIV Pregame Show from Sun Life Stadium on February 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET. The final two candidates have separated themselves from an initial group of more than 200,000 applicants and voting for them will continue at nfl.monster.com until midnight on February 5.
Based on fan voting, either Amanda Cameron of San Diego, CA (representing San Diego) or Ralph Lanier, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL (representing Miami) will be crowned the next Director. As part of the season-long role, the Director will take home a $100,000 “signing bonus”, as well as take part in the behind-the-scenes action at several marquee NFL events during the 2010 season. The runner-up will take home $10,000.
“We launched this program with this moment in mind – the chance to grant this extraordinary opportunity to one lucky fan,” said Ted Gilvar, executive vice president and chief global marketing officer, Monster Worldwide, Inc. “Our finalists have been role models for how anyone can use their talent and enthusiasm to land a dream job through Monster.”
The final tests came this past weekend in South Florida where Cameron and Lanier, Jr. arrived before the 2010 Pro Bowl and completed a series of on-field experiences under the watchful eye of NFL Films. The two finalists first designed a play had their offensive coordinator skills evaluated by a Pro Bowl coach. Later this week, the winner of the Pro-Bowl Finalist task will complete broadcaster and field-preparations duties with NFL crews to assure everything is in order for Super Bowl XLIV. Videos of the finalist’s adventures in South Florida can be viewed at nfl.monster.com.
The next Director of Fandemonium’s duties will include:
- NFL Draft: Announce a pick at the 2010 NFL Draft (April 2010)
- NFL Kickoff: Act as backstage talent wrangler at the 2010 NFL Kickoff concert (Sept. 2010)
- International Series: Participate in on-field introductions at a game in London (Oct. 2010)
- NFL Thanksgiving: On-field broadcast liaison for NFL Network’s Thanksgiving Game (Nov. 2010)
- Wild Card Game: Monitor player uniforms on-field before a 2010 Wild Card Game (Jan. 2011)
- Pro Bowl: Select a play from the sidelines during the 2011 Pro Bowl (Jan./Feb. 2011)
- Super Bowl: Join the coin toss ceremony at Super Bowl XLV (Feb. 2011)
Since the initial “application process,” 32 Director of Fandemonium finalists (one per NFL team) were randomly selected. From those 32, fan voting will determine all eliminations until the winner is announced on Super Bowl Sunday. All finalists campaigned to be the next Director and the top eight were selected to travel to New York to take part in several interactive challenges specifically designed to measure each finalist’s motivation, professional integrity, and passion for the NFL and Monster.com. These challenges included an NFL trivia and skills game and a board room interview with retired NFL superstars Jerome Bettis and Sterling Sharpe.
“All finalists had the passion and knowledge to be the next Director, but Amanda and Ralph had that extra something needed to represent all NFL fans,” said Bettis. “I think the fans were really invested in these candidates and I’m excited to see who will be named the Director right before the Super Bowl.”
Finalist Amanda Cameron added, “The campaigning experience has been amazing and I am not ready for it to end. As a California native, to travel all over the country and represent my team and the NFL is more than I could ask for.”
“The whole Director of Fandemonium experience has changed my life,” said Lanier, Jr. “I can’t believe that I might walk on the field on Super Bowl Sunday. A select few people in the world can say they’ve done that and I hope I’m one of them.”
