The NFL season is still a couple of weeks from its midpoint, but the Montgomery-made 2011 Hyundai Sonata is a serious contender for the Super Bowl.

Hyundai has confirmed that not only does it plan to spend more money marketing its redesigned 2011 Sonata than it has ever spent before to market a car in the U.S., but that the amount will be almost twice the total of Hyundai’s previous high to promote a U.S. model.

The car also seems to have a better chance of making the Super Bowl than most NFL hopefuls. In a telephone interview with the Montgomery Advertiser, Jim Trainor, Hyundai Motor America’s manager of product public relations, confirmed that Hyundai will have Super Bowl ads for the third straight year when the NFL plays its championship game Feb. 7 in Miami.

Trainor said it will be several weeks at the earliest before Hyundai decides exactly what product to highlight during its Super Bowl ads early next year, but the Sonata is a strong contender for several reasons.
