LOS ANGELES — Corporate synergy is paying off for MTV. It will produce the halftime show for the 2004 Super Bowl to be held Feb. 1 in Houston and airing on CBS.

Viacom owns the network and the cable channel. MTV produced the halftime show for the 2001 Super Bowl, which also aired on CBS and featured Aerosmith, ‘N Sync, Britney Spears, Nelly and Mary J. Blige.

“We plan on even more unexpected music performances that will go down in halftime history,” Van Toffler, president of MTV and MTV2, said in a statement Monday.

Performers for the show were not announced. America Online is the halftime sponsor.
