MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Subjex.com (www.subjex.com), a Minneapolis-based web portal for a dialogue-based search engine was forced to abandon their contest plans for the Super Bowl(R) because of legal threats. The Subjex(TM) Sneak, as it was referred to, was aimed at getting advertising by enlisting the help of game attendees and offering a prize to the person with the longest amount of “air-time.”
“As a public company our main goal is profitability through unique and cost-effective advertising concepts that build our brand,” said Andrew Hyder, President and C.E.O. of Subjex.com. “It was interesting how quickly the National Football League perceived our little contest as such a big threat. First we tried to appease their legal representatives by changing our contest name and rules with no success. While we still disagree they have the right to control what people may wear or hold while attending games, we don’t have the resources to take them on in court and we don’t want game attendees getting barred or kicked out of the Super Bowl(R).”
In a letter from legal representatives for the National Football League, the message was clear, “…you are hereby on notice that the NFL will deem any ticket holder advertising for Subjex.com to be in violation of the ticket back terms and conditions…” and further stated, “…no individual entering the stadium may participate… If they do, they are at risk of having their license to attend the game revoked.”
The contest gained widespread participation interest, even after Subjex.com had suspended registration, notified those people previously registered that the contest was no longer being offered, and put a notice on the web site to warn people about violating their ticket terms.
