ATLANTA — A pair of divas from opposite ends of the musical spectrum and a male singer who combines the diversity of both distaff partners will star in the official pregame activities for Super Bowl XXXIV here on Jan. 30 at the Georgia Dome.

SportsLine has learned through league and music industry sources that Tina Turner and Travis Tritt will headline the pregame show and Faith Hill will perform the national anthem. All three verbally committed to contracts in the last few days and an announcement from the NFL likely will come next week, possibly as early as Monday, the sources confirmed.

The trio certainly is deep in Southern roots. Turner is a native of Tennessee and Hill of Mississippi. Tritt, who is immensely popular here, was born in Marietta, Ga., an Atlanta suburb.

Turner and Hill appeared together earlier this year on VH1 “Divas Live.” The title game appearance by Turner, who turned 60 last month, will be one of her last before she begins her much-touted “Millennium 2000 Twenty Four Seven” concerts, which she claims will be her final world tour. Turner has sold more than 50 million albums and has had nearly two-dozen No. 1 singles.

In only six years, the 32-year-old Hill has sold 11 million albums and had eight top singles. Tritt has had three No. 1 singles.

The league and Disney, which is securing the halftime entertainment, have yet to finalize the intermission show and an announcement on that probably won’t come until late next week at the earliest. SportsLine has learned that, contrary to various written and broadcast reports, the group ‘N Sync will not be part of the halftime show.
